Who doesn’t like cheese and pastry?

If you haven’t tried the combination of peanut butter and cheese you must try it! Your little ones will love it!

You can serve this box from 6 months old.

Just make sure that the strawberries are quartered and the olives are quartered. You can mash the strawberries and blend the olives with a little water if that would make you feel better.

The pastry twists are so easy to make as you will see below. You could make a batch of them so you have snacks ready in the fridge if needed.

Strawberries are a hit with my son at the moment so I had to add them into the box.

Olives can be hit and miss with kiddies I know, but it they haven’t tried them yet I would highly recommend trying them as they may surprise you!

This is such a handy recipe to have. Especially as the ready roll pastry makes life so much easier.

I’d love to know what you think of this bento box!

Give this one a try you and your kids will love it!

    Ingredient information

Ready rolled puff pastry - I use the ready rolled puff pastry as it’s easy to use and relatively inexpensive. You can also keep it in the fridge if you do not use it all so it’s handy to have in the fridge for last minute lunches and dinners.

100% peanut butter - I always use 100% peanut butter as there is no added sugar and salt.

Mature cheddar cheese - You can use your cheese of choice, Red Leicester works well too!

Strawberries - My son’s favourite at the moment so I had to include!

Olives - If you haven’t given your little ones olives, give them a try!

    Serving suggestion

You could really get creative and mix up what you serve the twists with. You could make a cheesy yogurt dipping sauce, or change up the fruit choice.

If you choose apple, if you squeeze over some lemon or lime it will prevent the apple from going brown.

    Storage instructions

You can store this in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. So this is perfect if you would like to make this in advance for the week or make more than one for all your kids lunches.

You could make a batch of the twists and keep them in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge!

    • 1/4 pack ready rolled puff pastry

    • 40g mature cheddar cheese, grated

    • 4 strawberries, quartered

    • 3 slices cucumber, quartered

    • 3 olives, halved

    Instructions

    1. Start by heating the oven to 180 degrees.

    2. Next take your puff pastry and cut into 4 strips approx a centimetre wide and 10cm long.

    3. Spread the peanut butter on all 4 of the strips and sprinkle with the cheese on top

    4. Twist each strip and pop on a lined baking sheet in the oven for 20 minutes until golden.

    5. Leave them to cool slightly before adding to the bento box.

    6. Add in the olives and cucumber into one compartment and the strawberries into the other compartment.

Hope you and your family enjoy!

    Recipe notes

You could blend up the olives to make a sort of tapenade and use it as a dipping sauce if you are worried about giving whole olives to your little ones. If you are serving this box to a little one who is 6 months old, blend the olives if you like or quarter them and quarter the strawberries.
