    Ingredient information

Oats - Oats are great for fibre and great for energy. The perfect breakfast for your baby in the mornings. You could use any oats you have such as steel-cut oats, I find rolled oats or quick oats for quick cooking to make the porridge. You could add in a teaspoon of chia seeds too if you like. You could use a food processor to make ground oats if you wish for a smoother texture.

Milk - I have used whole cow’s milk, but you can use a plant based alternative if you wish. You could also use breast milk too.

Apple - I have used a small apple for the recipe, any apple will work.

Soft blackberries - If you did not have blackberries you could use blueberries instead. You could add in a sprinkle of cinnamon too if you wish.

    Serving suggestion

The apple and blackberry porridge would be great served with a dollop of plain Greek yogurt. If you had a little of the blackberry and apple compote leftover you could add a little extra on top.

Other recipes you may like: Porridge, Oaty bars, Overnight oats or Scrambled eggs.

    Storage instructions

The porridge can be left in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Its best stored in an airtight container to keep fresh.

You can also freeze this as well for up to 3 months in the freezer in a large airtight container or portion the porridge up into smaller airtight containers.

Once you are ready to remove from the freezer, all you will need to do is leave to thaw in the fridge in the container, once defrosted fully, heat in the same way.

Once heated you will not be able to reheat.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Saucepan - So many pan sets out there but I particularly like to use pans with a non-stick surface for ease of cleaning and ones that are suitable for different types of hob surface.

To make the recipe 100% gluten-free you could use gluten-free oats for your baby.

You could add in nut butters such as almond butter to add a nuttiness to the oats. This is a great way to add in a little bit of nut to test an allergen. You will only need a tiny amount if this is what you are doing.
