Can My 6 Month Old Eat Pizza?

Yes! These easy individual pizzas are so fun and colourful! They make for a great lunch or a great way to get some quick snacks on the go! They are so much fun and a fun addition to your weekly meal planner.

The mozzarella, tomato pastries are so delicate and sweet! Such a cute little baby pizza.

I am finding that using a shot measurer as a cutter works so well when getting the perfect size circle for finger food for your little ones.

You can of course use a cookie cutter of choice, but this one I find works so nicely for the bento box too!

The mango slices and coconut are such a lovely combination together. If your little one has not tried fresh mango yet, you must give it a go!

The final combination of grape and cheddar cheese is so delicious and a combination by son really enjoys as a little snack. I like the fact I have combined it within this bento box lunch.

How Do You Pack Mini Pizzas For Lunch?

To pack the easy mini pizza recipe for lunch, start by prepping the mini pizzas. Once they are ready, allow them to cool completely. They are the perfect school snack.

Place the mini pizzas in an airtight bento box, like this one, to keep them fresh and intact for transport.

This type of container is ideal for on-the-go lunches, whether for school or work.

Seal the airtight bento box securely and store it in a lunch bag with an ice pack to maintain freshness until lunchtime.

Mini pizzas packed this way will stay delicious and ready to enjoy whenever hunger strikes.

You must give this a go if you need a fun lunch idea for your little ones. The recipe makes 6 pastries so enough for both you and your little ones! A great recipe and great meal idea.

    Ingredient information

Shortcrust pastry - I have used shortcrust pastry as I didn’t want the pastry to puff up, this pastry is perfect for a flat bake. You could also use mini bagels if you wanted to for a bigger bite. The cooking time may vary.

Mozzarella - I find mozzarella great for baking, you could use cheddar cheese if you have it as an alternative.

Vine tomatoes - The vine tomatoes I used were the perfect size for this recipe. You could use cherry tomatoes if you can’t get a small-medium vine tomato. (the ones I bought were from Aldi). You can also use a homemade pizza sauce or tomato puree with a little garlic powder and extra toppings such as mashed black olives and oregano if you prefer or both. An easy tomato sauce recipe could work very well for this recipe.

Mango - Mango’s are a great weaning fruit, they are very sweet and distinctive. Exotic fruits are great for little ones. I know some people who use the large pip as a weaning tool for their babies too!

Coconut - Mango and coconut go so nicely together and I always have desiccated coconut in the store cupboard so it is a great addition.

Cheddar cheese - Adding more calcium and protein to this recipe. The best things in life are cheese!

White grapes - I have used white grapes as these are what I had. But you can, of course, use seedless black grapes, both work well with cheese.

    Serving suggestion

You could serve this with a Greek yogurt dip for the mango and coconut, and you could make a tomato sauce for the pastries to dip.

If you wanted to serve the bento box as it is that would also be just as yummy!

    Storage instructions

The small pizzas can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, stored in an airtight container.

If you wanted to freeze the pizzas, you will need to make sure that the pizzas have cooled down before transferring to either a freezer bag or airtight container. Ensure that the bag/airtight container is labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.

To defrost the pizzas, leave in the fridge overnight and make sure that they are fully defrosted, before re heating.

To reheat, place the pizzas in a oven proof dish and reheat 180C/350F for 4-5 minutes. They can be eaten at room temperature.

Once the pizzas have been defrosted you will not be able to reheat or refreeze.

Recipe | Easy Homemade Mini Pizzas For Baby Led Weaning

Mozzarella and tomato pastry bites served in bento box with mango cheese and grapes

    Alt text Alt text

Makes 1 bento box for little or big tummies

    • 100g Ready rolled shortcrust pastry (320g pack)

    • 2 slices of mozzarella cheese ball

    • 2 vine tomatoes, sliced

    • A wedge of mango, sliced

    • 1 teaspoon desiccated coconut

    • 10g cheddar cheese

    • 4 white grapes, sliced in half or quartered from 6 months

    Instructions

    1. Preheat your oven to 180C or 350F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    2. First I take a measuring shot glass (yes a shot glass), and cut out 6 circles in the shortcrust pastry. The rest of the pastry I keep in the fridge for other recipes, or you can freeze it. You can use a small round cookie cutter too!

    3. Once you have your 6 small round discs, take your mozzarella slices and using the same “cutter” cut 6 mozzarella discs and set aside.

    4. Lay the pastry discs on your lined baking sheet spaced apart, top with the tomato followed by the mozzarella on top. Now you have your little pizzas.

    5. Pop in your preheated oven. The cook time is 25 minutes in your hot oven until the pastry is cooked and the cheese is melted and golden brown.

    6. Leave the delicious mini pizzas to cool for 5 minutes or so.

    7. Once they are cooled pop 4 or 6 of the pastries into the bento box.

    8. Place the mango in a silicone cup if desired, and sprinkle with the coconut.

    9. Pop the grapes and cheese into another silicone cup and pop in the bento box.

Hope you and your family enjoy!

    Recipe notes

You can of course mix the pastries up and add chicken or even Tuna and cheddar cheese would work nicely.

Try using a gluten-free puff pastry to make the recipe gluten-free.

You could use a vegan/dairy free cheese to make the recipe dairy free.

A perfect recipe for the whole family. Great for pizza night or pizza party! You could prepare regular pizza of course.
