Packed with essential nutrients like calcium, protein, and vitamin A, cheddar scones ensure that your baby receives a wholesome and satisfying meal as they embark on their exciting culinary adventure.
Is the Texture Of A Scone OK For My Baby
When introducing a scone to your little one for baby-led weaning, it's important to adapt the texture and size to ensure safe and enjoyable eating. Begin by cutting the scone into small bite-sized pieces or fingers, making sure they are soft and crumbly enough for your baby to easily hold in their tiny hands.
Encourage your little one to explore the scone independently, allowing them to feel the texture and smell the delicious aroma. As they become more comfortable, they can experiment with taking small bites and experiencing the flavours.
Remember to always supervise your baby during mealtime and introduce new foods gradually to watch for any potential allergic reactions. With baby-led weaning, the scone will not only serve as a tasty treat but also as an opportunity for your little one to develop their self-feeding skills and explore new flavours.
Can I Serve Cheddar Cheese To My Baby?
Cheddar cheese can be a delightful addition to the baby led weaning journey. With its mild and creamy flavour, cheddar cheese offers a rich source of calcium and protein, essential for your baby's growth and development. Its soft and easily chewable texture makes it a perfect finger food option for little hands to explore and practice their fine motor skills.
Introducing cheddar cheese during this stage can also help expand your baby's palate, exposing them to new flavours and textures. However, it is important to remember that cheddar cheese can be high in salt, so it's advisable to choose low salt option or moderate the amount given to your little one.
The Benefits of Carrots
Carrots are an excellent vegetable to introduce to babies during the baby-led weaning process. Packed with essential nutrients, carrots offer a wide range of benefits for infants. First and foremost, carrots are rich in beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, which is vital for healthy skin, vision, and immune function.
Additionally, carrots are a great source of dietary fibre, promoting a healthy digestive system and preventing constipation in little ones. Their slightly sweet taste and soft texture make carrots an ideal food for babies to grasp and gnaw on, aiding in the development of fine motor skills.
Moreover, the vibrant colour of carrots is visually captivating for infants, stimulating their curiosity and encouraging exploration of different textures. Overall, introducing carrots to babies during the weaning process ensures they receive a nutrient-dense vegetable that promotes growth, development, and a positive relationship with food from an early age.

Ingredient information
Self raising flour - I have used self raising flour for an extra raising agent.
Sharp cheddar cheese - I have used extra mature cheddar cheese as I feel this works the best within this scone recipe! Very cheesy! And adds a lovely flavour!
Carrot - I have used the finest grater setting as this blends in really well with the flour mixture.
Unsalted butter - I always use unsalted butter when cooking for my son. Block butter at room temperature works best.
Milk - I have used whole milk but you can use your milk of choice here.
Drive chives - I love dried chives and they are a great staple to have in your store cupboard.
Baking powder - A little extra raising agent for the scones.
Serving suggestion
The savoury scones are great served on their own, or as part of a light lunch! You could serve the fluffy cheese scones with, sliced avocado, cucumber batons. Rice balls would be a great addition to a dinner too! Or you could simply butter or cream cheese as part of a snack! You could also toast them too!
Storage instructions
The Scones can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
They can alternatively be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months, in an airtight container or freezer bags.
To defrost the cheese scones successfully, leave the cheese scones in an airtight container overnight until they are fully defrosted.
To reheat preheat your oven to 180C or 350F and place on a lined baking sheet and warm through for 10 minutes or so. Leave to cool slightly before serving. Always check they are not too hot before serving to your baby.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Baking Sheet - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
