    Baby Cookies Recipe

Oats and apple cookies are an excellent choice for baby-led weaning, offering a nutritious and delicious snack without any added sugar. Great if you are wanting to add less sugar to your kids diet too. Great for those kids with a sweet tooth.

The natural sweetness of ripe apples provides flavour while contributing essential vitamins and fibre, supporting your little one’s digestive health.

Oats are packed with nutrients, including iron and B vitamins, and help to keep little tummies feeling full and satisfied.

This is the perfect cookie to grip, making them perfect for tiny hands to hold, encouraging self-feeding and independence.

With a simple combination of wholesome ingredients, these delicious oatmeal cookies make for a wholesome after school cookie treat that you can feel good about offering to your baby and children.

    Oats vs Rolled Oats

Oats and rolled oats both offer nutritious options for babies, but they differ in their texture and preparation. Oats, often referred to as whole oats or steel-cut oats, retain their whole grain nature and take longer to cook, resulting in a chewier consistency.

This can be suitable for older infants who are ready for more complex textures. In contrast, rolled oats are steamed and flattened, making them quicker to prepare and softer when cooked, which is ideal for younger babies just starting to explore solid foods.

Both forms of oats are rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, making them a healthy choice; however, rolled oats may be more convenient for parents seeking a smoother, easier-to-eat option for their little ones.

    Rolled Oats For Baby

Rolled oats or quick oats are an excellent choice for babies, particularly when prepared as porridge. They are a fantastic source of fibre, which aids in digestion and helps prevent constipation.

Their soft texture makes them easy for little ones to chew, while the mild flavour can be enhanced with fruit or natural sweeteners, making porridge a delicious and nutritious meal.

Rolled oats are rich in essential vitamins and minerals, including iron, magnesium, and B vitamins, which support healthy growth and development in infants.

Incorporating rolled oats into your baby's diet not only provides essential nutrients but also introduces a variety of textures and tastes, setting the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of healthy foods.

    Ingredient information

Oats - The chewy oat cookie is a great recipe. They already have a sweet flavour so they are great in a cookie recipe without any added sugar.

Greek yogurt - Greek yogurt in a cookie recipe is a great ingredient, as it binds the ingredients together without using eggs or butter.

Flaxseed - I have added flaxseed for nutritional purposes. You could leave this ingredient out if you do not have it in the cupboard.

Chia seeds - I have added chia seeds to the Nutri bullet for added nutrition and for added protein.

Fresh apples - You can use any sweet apples that you may have. I have used a cox apple but granny smith apples are a great option too.

Ground cinnamon - This ingredient is an optional ingredient. It is a great addition if you wanted to make apple cinnamon cookies. The recipe works great without cinnamon too. Apple spices are great to add flavour to puds and desserts.

    Serving suggestion

The chewy oatmeal cookies are great as a stand alone snack or breakfast on the go.

The cookies are great for lunch boxes too for older kids, these are a really fun cookie to make for the whole family, not just for baby.

You could serve the healthy oatmeal cookies with a little more plain yogurt for dipping, or you could serve with berries such as strawberries and blueberries.

Why not spread them with a little smooth peanut butter. For best results, cut them in half, spread with peanut butter on one side an place the other half on top to make an oaty sandwich.

    Storage instructions

Storing the apple cinnamon oatmeal cookies in the fridge cooked:

All you will need to do is store the sweet cookies in an airtight container or a freezer-safe container or even tightly wrapped plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. Just make sure the cookies are at room temperature before packaging up.

You can also store the cooked healthy apple oatmeal cookies in the freezer in the same way for up to 3 months.

Store the cookies in the freezer raw:

All you will need to do is place the raw cookies in an airtight container spaced out in the container in a single layer, you will need a large one or you can place on the baking tray wrapped in plastic wrap if you have enough room.

When you decide to cook the healthy cookies from frozen you will need to cook an extra 5 minutes or so.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Baking tray - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.

You can use gluten-free oats if you wanted to make the recipe gluten-free.

You could use grated pear as well for this recipe if you wanted to mix things up.

You can use unsalted butter or coconut oil instead of parchment paper to grease the baking tray if you like.

These are such good cookies, they even taste a little bit of an apple pie, a healthy version anyway.
