These oaty balls are soo delicious!
You will have to give these a try!
I love thinking up recipes that can also cater for all, the oaty balls are Vegan/dairy free and nut free!
Not only are the balls easy to make they are so tasty too!
I have mentioned that you can leave the ground ginger out of them but I love that they taste a little bit like a gingerbread cake!
To find a healthy pre prepared snack in the supermarket is hard to find! I do prefer to make them myself, where possible! This is why whatever it is I create I like It to be super easy to make!
It is literally the case, where all you have to do is pop all of the ingredients into the food processor and blitz!
These really are tasty you will have to give them a go for your children!
Ingredient information
Rolled oats - I have used rolled oats as these are the ones that I buy and therefore always have in the cupboard.
Jumbo raisins and cranberries - I have used this mix, but if you wanted to do a mix of raisins and sultanas or just raisins that would work just as well.
Chia seeds - A protein hit is always handy to keep little tummies fuller for longer.
Ground ginger - As stated below you can leave this out if you like. It doesn’t make it spicy but I understand it may for some. We all love the added ginger in our home.
Apple purée - I always have apple purée in the in the freezer, stored in ice cube trays. If you had an apple purée pouch you could use this too!
Flaxseed - Packed with omega 3! Gives these a bit of grip for little hands.
Serving suggestion
The oat balls can easily be served on their own as a substantial snack! Or they can be served with some full fat Greek yogurt for dipping!
Storage instructions
You can store the oat balls in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Or you can store in an airtight container or freezer bags for up to 3 months.
Recipe | Fruity Oat Balls
Makes 9-10 balls
115g (1 cup) gluten free rolled oats (or usual oats)
85g (1/2 cup) Jumbo raisins and cranberries
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
2 teaspoons chia seeds
2 teaspoons of apple purée
1 tablespoon flaxseed
Instructions
Pop all the ingredients into a food processor or blender and blitz for a few minutes until combined.
Tip the mixture into a bowl and pull off a golf ball sized amount and roll into a ball using your hands.
I find if I squish the mixture flat in my hands a couple of times it helps the mixture to roll together more easily.
Once you have all your balls, sprinkle the flaxseed onto a plate and roll each ball in the flaxseed (top up with more flaxseed if needed).
Hope you and your family enjoy!
Recipe notes
If you wanted to make a large batch of these, all you would need to do is double or triple the recipe to make 18-27 balls.
