Can I Give My Baby Peanut Butter?

Absolutely! Introducing peanut butter to your baby during baby-led weaning can be a great way to incorporate healthy fats and protein into their diet.

Peanut butter is a good source of nutrients, including vitamin E, magnesium, and potassium. It's important to choose a smooth peanut butter without added salt or sugar to minimise any potential choking hazards.

And to ensure that your baby is not exposed to unnecessary added sugars.

As with any new food, it's important to monitor your baby for any signs of allergies and introduce new foods one at a time to identify any potential reactions.

What Is The Safest Way To Serve Peanut Butter To My Baby?

First and foremost, ensure that your baby does not have any allergies to peanuts.

If there's no history of allergies, begin by serving a very small amount of smooth peanut butter that is diluted with water or mixed into a small portion of Greek yogurt.

This helps to reduce the risk of choking and allows your baby to get used to the taste and texture.

Always supervise your baby while they are eating and be mindful of any signs of allergic reactions.

As always, it's best to consult with your health visitor before introducing new foods to your baby's diet.

When Is The Best Time To Introduce Banana To My Baby?

Bananas are a fantastic first food for BLW, as they are easy to grasp, mash easily in the mouth, and are generally well-tolerated by infants.

Most babies are ready for solid foods, including bananas, around six months of age when they can sit up unassisted and show an interest in food.

It's important to ensure that the banana is ripe and soft to reduce the risk of choking.

As always, it's best to consult with a health visitor before introducing any new foods to your baby's diet.

Overall, the introduction of bananas for BLW can be a joyous and beneficial experience for both parent and baby.

As there is no added sugar to the recipe the banana adds the sweetness to the cookie.

Peanut butter - Smooth peanut butter is best to use for this recipe, as crunchy peanut butter will be a choking hazard for babies.

    Storage instructions

    Storing in the fridge cooked:

All you will need to do is store in an airtight container or a freezer bag and keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.

You can also store the cooked cookies in the freezer in the same way for up to 3 months.

    Store in the freezer raw:

All you will need to do is place the raw cut cookies in an airtight container, in between each layer of cookies you will need to place some baking parchment.

When you decide to cook the cookies from frozen you will need to cook an extra 5 minutes or so.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others.

They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Baking Sheet - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.
