Almonds For Babies
Almonds are a nutritious food for babies, offering essential nutrients such as healthy fats, protein, and vitamins.
However, whole almonds can be a choking hazard for infants, so it is recommended to avoid serving them whole. Instead, almond butter or finely ground almonds can be introduced to babies around 6-8 months old.
These forms of almonds are easier for babies to consume and digest. When serving almond butter, ensure it is smooth and unsalted to minimise any potential risks. .
Finger Foods For Baby Led Weaning
Almond butter oat bites are an ideal choice for baby-led weaning due to their soft texture, making them easy for babies to grasp and nibble on independently.
The combination of almond butter and oats provides a good source of healthy fats, protein, and fibre, promoting healthy growth and development in infants.
These healthy snacks are also free from common allergens like dairy and eggs, reducing the risk of allergic reactions. Also, their small size is perfect for little hands to pick up and explore, helping to develop fine motor skills.

Ingredient information
Rolled oats - I have used rolled oats but you can use any oats that you have such as steel cut oats or regular oats such as quick oats, as they will be blitzed to an oat flour. You could use almond flour or coconut flour too.
Almond butter - I have used almond butter as this is such a delicious nut butter, but feel free to use a nut butter of choice such as a natural peanut butter, you could mix with a seed butter such as sunflower seed butter or pumpkin seed butter for added nutrition.
Ground flax seeds - I have used flaxseed for nutrition, and this can act as a bit of a grip on the outside of the almond bite for little hands. You could leave this step out if you prefer.
Serving suggestion
The almond butter bites are a perfect snack option, perfect for a little on the go breakfast too, served alongside a little plain full fat Greek yogurt.
They are a great school snack for lunch boxes too as they can be eaten at room temperature.
You could also serve with fresh fruit such as strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
Other recipes you may like: Oaty bars, Peanut butter cookies, Bliss balls or Carrot cake muffins.
Storage instructions
You can store the almond butter balls in an airtight container large or small, in the fridge for up to 5 days.
The bites can be stored in airtight containers or freezer bags and kept in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Great for bringing out when you need them!
To defrost the bites from the freezer, leave the bites in the fridge overnight to defrost.
Once defrosted they will not be able to be re-frozen.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.
Mixing bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Ingredients
Makes 8 bites
100g rolled oats
2 tablespoons smooth almond butter (and a little of the oil from the jar)
4 tablespoons water (more if needed)
2 tablespoons flaxseed
Instructions
Start by blitzing the oats to an oat flour in a Nutri bullet or food processor.
Add the oat flour to a large bowl, followed by the almond butter, including a little of the natural nut oil from the jar.
Add in the water and bring the mixture together using your hands. If you find the mixture is not sticking together add in a little more water until the mixture rolls easily in your hands and stays in a ball shape.
Once the mixture consistency is to your liking, take approx a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into 8 balls.
Spoon the flaxseed onto a plate, and roll each ball in the flaxseed and set aside.
You can serve to your baby right away.
Recipe notes
You could absolutely make this recipe with peanut butter or even cashew butter is really nice within this recipe, instead of almond butter.
You could also add in 1-2 tablespoons of chia seeds to the rolled oats before they are blitzed, for added nutrition.
Hope you and your family enjoy!
