What Are Homemade Peanut Butter Cups?

A creamy peanut butter cup is a delicious treat using simple ingredients (for peanut butter lovers) that consists of a rich and creamy blend of 100% pure peanut butter, enveloped in a smooth, indulgent milk chocolate or dark chocolate shell, like reese’s cups. However, there's a unique twist to our version – nestled within the velvety peanut butter is a delightful surprise of fresh, mashed raspberries, adding a burst of fruity flavour to the classic combination. Each bite of the pb cups is a harmonious marriage of nutty, sweet, and tangy notes that tantalise the taste buds, making it a truly irresistible confection for peanut butter and berry enthusiasts alike.

Can My Baby Eat These Sweet Treats?

Absolutely! Your baby can enjoy a peanut butter cup as a delicious treat, and it can also serve as a soothing teether for their sore gums. The creamy texture of the peanut butter cup can provide relief for any discomfort your little one may be experiencing. However, it's important to remember to give it to them in moderation and under supervision, ensuring they don't have any allergies or choking hazards. Always consult with your health visitor before introducing new foods to your baby's diet.

Why You Should Only Give Your Baby 100% Peanut Butter with No Added Sugar, Salt, or Palm Oil

As a parent, it's essential to prioritise your baby's health from the very start, and that includes being mindful of what you feed them. When it comes to peanut butter, opting for the 100% pure version without added sugar, salt, or hydrogenated vegetable oils is crucial for your baby's well-being. Babies' delicate systems are still developing, and introducing them to pure, minimally processed foods helps set the stage for a lifetime of healthy eating habits. 100% peanut butter provides essential nutrients like protein, healthy fats, and fibre without unnecessary additives that can be detrimental to your baby's health. By choosing a pure peanut butter option, you're ensuring that your baby receives the wholesome goodness of real peanuts without any potentially harmful extras. It's the best way to start your little one on the path to a nourishing and balanced diet right from the beginning.

Can I Use Crunchy Peanut Butter?

Using crunchy peanut butter for your baby during Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) is not advised, as it may pose a choking hazard. BLW encourages offering age-appropriate finger foods to babies, and crunchy peanut butter could present a risk due to its texture and potential for large, solid pieces. It's best to opt for smooth peanut butter to minimise the risk of choking. You could use a food processor if you have crunchy peanut butter. Smooth peanut butter still provides the benefits of introducing your baby to the taste of peanuts and their potential allergens, as recommended by some healthcare professionals to potentially reduce the risk of peanut allergies later in life. Always consult with your health visitor or a registered dietitian for personalised guidance on introducing new foods to your baby during BLW.

    Serving suggestion

These are great eaten on their own as a delicious snack! If you did want to serve them with something you could make mashed raspberries and use them as a fun dipping sauce for your little ones. You could leave the cups at room temperature for a softer bite.

Other great snacks that are great for teething gums are, strawberry cups, frozen yogurt bars, yogurt bark, strawberry oaty bars.

    Storage instructions

The peanut butter cups can be kept in her freezer for up to 3 months in an airtight container or freezer bags. Before eating they will need to thaw for a few minutes for babies from 6 months. Or they can be eaten straight from the freezer too for toddlers and beyond.

Equipment Used To Help With This Recipe

Muffin tray - A non-stick muffin pan that will easily clean any spills from the muffin cases. You will need one of these to easily hold the muffin cases.

Silicone cups - I love reusable kitchen stuff! These silicone muffin cases are dishwasher and freezer safe and can be used in the oven up to 230 degrees C! Ideal for individual baby portions.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

    Recipe notes

If you wanted to swap out the raspberries for mashed, strawberries, blueberries or blackberries you absolutely could! Go for your kids favourite! I would say that berries work better for this!

For older kids, you could use a mini muffin tin for a smaller sweet treat.
